From 2017 to 2021, the editor-in-chief was Borov Aslan Khazhismelovich, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, leading researcher at the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nalchik, Russia.
From 01.01.2022 to the present, the editor–in-chief is Alexey Khasanovich Abazov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy General Director for Scientific Work at the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor at the Department of Theory and History of State and Law at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.
By Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated July 8, 2019 No. 262-r "On inclusion in the list of peer-reviewed scientific publications in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Sciences, for the degree of Doctor of Sciences" should be published, the Electronic Journal "Kavkazologiya" is included in the List of the following scientific specialties and their corresponding branches of science in which academic degrees are awarded:

Based on the decree of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation No. 33-r dated February 1, 2022, the Electronic journal Kavkazologiya is considered to be included in the List of scientific specialty 10.01.02 – Literature of the Peoples of the Russian Federation until October 16, 2022.
